We will be doing Oyster Farm Tours starting in June during the BC Shellfish Festival. Two dates are now confirmed – June 9th and 13th. On Friday, June 9th we will leave from Comox at 12:45 with Chef Injenika Wilson. The trip on Tuesday, June 13th, will depart at 10:15 with Chef Jade Berg. The June 13th trip is sold out.
Both trips will be about 3.5 hours long and include shellfish and other seafood treats. The Oyster Farm Tour happens at Hollie Wood Oysters deep water site, which is anchored off Denman Island. This part of their operation has oysters hanging in trays under the floats and is only accessible by boat. Our boat will tie up to these floats where we will get a 30 minute presentation from the owners, Greg and Hollie Wood. Greg loves to talk about the sustainable farming they do and the importance of a healthy environment. This family run business also works with other farmers to help everyone get their fresh product to market, so they also distribute clams and mussels.
On the trip home you will get to enjoy fresh shellfish from the farm prepared by the Chef onboard. The safest place to get shellfish is a restaurant or seafood dealer that buy from the farmers. All the product that leave farms are tested and certified safe. There are times when certain areas are closed for harvesting, so we can’t know exactly what we will serve until a week before the trip. In the past trips Hollie Wood Oysters have supplied oysters, clams and/or muscles. We also supply crab and salmon snacks to round out the experience. If you want to learn everything about oysters, this is the trip for you. Tickets are available now. $68 per person.
